WHAT IS COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY?
Collagen Induction Therapy or Dermal Micro-Needling (DMN) is a safe, effective and affordable treatment for improved cellular health. It is a great alternative to laser, high percentage chemical peels and minor cosmetic surgery. The main principle is to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen. When performed in salon, a topical anaesthetic is applied followed by the application of a sterile roller made with a series of fine, sharp needles that is rolled over the surface of the skin to create microscopic channels deep into the dermis. This stimulates your own body to make new collagen, thus increasing the strength and elasticity of the skin. Collagen Induction Therapy has a firming, lifting and smoothing effect to the skin.
HOW CAN I MAKE MY COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY MOST EFFECTIVE?
The most effective way to boost collagen production is to prepare the skin with Vitamins A & C prior to treatment, and then maintain a heightened state of collagen and elastin production by continuing the skin care regime after treatment.
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE THE RESULTS?
Results can take 3 to 9 months to fully appear as the body takes times to generate new collagen. Continual improvement is noticed as the skin progresses. A controlled, double-blind study has shown an average of 206% of new naturally produced elastin and collagen fibres 6 -8 weeks after a Collagen Induction Therapy treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?
A series of treatments may be required, you skin therapist will advise on your first consultation. Results exceed the clients expectations when combined with a home care roller to increase the penetration of nightly active serums.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
In contrast to conventional treatments like laser resurfacing or peels, Collagen Induction is user friendly and achieves results without burning or removing the superficial epidermis. A through consultation ensures there is no risk.
DOES IT HURT?
The procedure may require the application of a topical anaesthetic cream in some areas (effective after 45 minutes), with a facial Collagen Induction Therapy treatment successfully completed in 30 minutes. No post treatment pain is experienced and no reported side effects. Immediately after the procedure the skin usually turns pink to red and has minimal swelling, however, other than general warmth there is no residual discomfort.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
The procedure takes from as little as ten minutes to an hour depending on the area being treated (after the topical application of anaesthetic cream).
DO I HAVE TO USE HOME CARE?
The use of the home care roller is recommended to increase the penetration of nightly active skin care serums, enhancing your results.
WHAT AGE GROUP IS THE TREATMENT SUITABLE FOR?
Collagen Induction Therapy is suitable for all age groups as it is effective in treating ageing skin by reducing the depth of wrinkles, restores elasticity and improves the skin structure. Pigmentation can be evened out as the Collagen Induction Therapy process restores Melanocyte Function and evens skin tone. By regulating cellular function, the effects of UV exposure can be reversed. Typical scars treated effectively with Collagen Induction include: Acne scars, hair transplantation scars, surgical scars, abdominal, liposuction & breast scars, burn contractures.
DO I HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK?
Social down time is generally a few hours, with the skin appearance returning to normal within 12-24 hours. A light make-up may be applied if desired the following day. We recommend the application of a sunscreen SPF28 or greater.
CAN COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH OTHER TREATMENTS?
Collagen Induction Therapy can be safely used on laser surfaced skin and can be combined with other rejuvenating treatments.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY OVER OTHER TREATMENTS?
Collagen Induction Therapy treatments do not burn like laser or acid treatments. There is less discomfort and faster recovery resulting in less disruption to normal activities. It is effective on all body areas.
The principal behind Dermal Micro-Needling is simple: to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen. This is accomplished by causing a minute injury to the dermis, which results in the start of the wound healing cascade. Dermal Micro-Needling will help restore skin tightness in the early stages of ageing, speed up the reduction of pigmented marks, thicken thin skin, smooth fine lines, soften scars and reduce dilated blood vessels.
